Bioderma Sensibio H2O

I first heard about this product on Lisa Eldridge’s skincare video and my hunt for a water based makeup remover started there.

In general, up until last year I was using the usual oil and water combo makeup removers. But I hated that oily residue that was left behind, I always had to wash my face after using even a tiny bit. It became only worse when it came to correcting makeup, that little area of oiliness left behind.

I think Caudalie’s Cleansing Water was the first water based one I tried. I loved how it felt but it didn’t remove makeup as efficiently as Bioderma.

Bioderma Sensibio H2O is a micellar water solution developed specially for sensitive skin. It’s very gentle and safe to use around the eye area as well. This literally feels like putting water over your skin and it just magically gets rid of the makeup.

This works really well but you do need a bit of patience. You take this on a cotton ball/pad and place over the area for 10-15 seconds and then swipe it off. If you don’t keep it long enough for it to break down the makeup, it will not work in one quick swipe.

Face makeup, blush, eyeshadow is all removed quite easily. It takes a bit more time and swipes to remove lipsticks and eye makeup like liners and mascara. It has a bit of a problem getting rid of heavier lipsticks like matte ones and stains. It generally needs a bit more work to remove stains. I’ve also been able to remove waterproof mascara, it just needs to be soaked in it for a little longer.

I have a skincare routine post if you want to know more in detail but generally if I have little makeup I use just this and then my normal milk cleanser. If I have a full face of makeup, then I first do away with the bulk of it using Bioderma and then I use a cleansing oil for remove it completely. I don’t expect Bioderma to be my cleanser and in that sense I suppose it’s also about what individual expectations are from the product. For me, it works perfectly.

Overall, I’ll be buying this for a long time to come unless I want to try something new to find a cheaper alternative.

This costs Rs. 850 which seems like a lot but you get 250ml of product which is more than usual and lasts a couple of months. I also like the packaging. It looks very simple but it’s a very thick sturdy plastic, not the cheap flexible one. The lid will not break and the bottle can’t be smooshed.

This is also available in India in the 100ml version, it’s a smaller bottle and perfect to travel with.
