Hello minxes! I was on the hunt for a spray that would give me more volume near my roots, to make it look like I have more hair… Well, I stumbled upon this brand called Bumble and Bumble. My initial reaction was “omg-cute-name!! must-have-it!!”. When the excitement died down, I decided to google their products and the thickening hairspray was the best fit for what I wanted.
Bumble and Bumble’s Thickening hairspray is a light which gives different effects depending on your hair type. But in the general sense, it gives more volume at the roots and keeps the fly aways at bay. I have very fine hair and for me this works really well. I’ll go through exactly how I use this and what it does for me. Then I’ll talk about other hair types and my concerns with this.
So after a shower, I dry my hair a bit and while it’s still wet, I apply this spray near my roots. I comb through it and get my hair free of tangles basically. When it’s time to blow dry, that’s when the spray really works. You pull your hair upwards near the roots and blow dry it. The spray maintains some of hold and volume in that process. It also sort of keeps the hair together and hence no frizz or fly aways. You really get that smooth blow dry kinda look. While I didn’t really think my hair looked thicker individually, collectively it does.
The spray isn’t very strong when it comes to hold so don’t expect to make any gravity defying styles. What I like is that the hair still looks very natural and doesn’t look like you have a ton of product on. It doesn’t make the scalp greasy or oily either. One tip, if you are really keen on it, you can use a setting hair spray to keep the hair in that style for longer. I’ve found that this keeps my hair in the same shape for a day. It’s more limp on the second day as usual.
If you have thick and/or curly hair, this will give you more defined curls and will separate them out and also keep the frizz in control.
So I love how the hair looks but I don’t like the feel at all. The spray has a very strong alcohol scent which doesn’t linger but can be very uncomfortable for some. My hair near the roots also feels more dry and scrunchy, which I hate. I’m quite new to volumizing sprays so I might try another before I settle on one. Hence the 3.5 rating even though it works quite well. This is also has heat protectant properties but since I only apply it at the crown and near roots, I use my usual heat protectant all over hair as well.
For a full list of ingredients, please see the Checklist below. This spray isn’t too expensive but neither very affordable. I’ve been using the 50ml one and it’s lasted for quite a while. Of course, I don’t use this everyday. Probably once in 2 weeks depending on where I’m headed.
