So before I go on and talk about this foundation, this post will also serve as an outlet for a mini rant about the World Cup. My routine is so messed up, I stay up everyday till 2-3! Concealer saves the day! Watching Spain concede 5 goals was torture. That said, the Sony Six pre-show Cafe Rio coverage is the worst television I’ve ever seen. I seriously miss ESPN-Star and John Dykes. Getting rid of John Abraham and bringing in Sunil Chhetri made it bearable. I’m still not happy though. They don’t show the teams in the dugout, coming onto the pitch and both national anthems. It’s part of the experience of watching the game! So now I watch an ITV stream until kickoff. I need to stop talking about this. It’s taking over my life. /rant
Well, I’ll get back to reviewing this lovely foundation now. Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua was released as a lighter version of their Lumiere foundation. It draws many comparisons to Mac Face & Body because it’s so similar. I’ll talk about that more towards the end of the post.
Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua with SPF 15 is a very light liquid foundation. It’s water based and very runny, the kind that needs to be shaken well before use. I have the shade 52 Beige Rose. Now, I bought this when I had a bit of a tan, so it’s a bit dark for me right now but still workable because it blends so well. If you’re NC 40 then maybe 50 Biege will be a better match. At the time it was just too yellow and light for me.
It’s very sheer and one layer is great for evening out your skin tone. It can’t really conceal blemishes but overall, your skin appears smoother. Being a thin liquid, it’s very easy to blend with either your fingers or a brush. I generally use my Real Techniques Buffing Brush or my Elf Pro Stippling Brush. You can layer on more, build it up for medium coverage, it still looks very natural.
The finish is more on the matte side. This makes it good for normal, combination and even oily skin. I have dry skin but generally it works well for me as long as I’ve moisturized well beforehand. It’s more of a semi matte finish but not powdery at all.
Even with a thin layer, this lasts well for 8 hours and beyond. I find it pretty similar to Mac Face & Body in that regard. Doesn’t accentuate dry flaky skin either.
This has a strong floral fragrance but it disappears after a while. Might not be so good if you have very sensitive skin or react badly to fragrances.
For hot and humid climates, a light foundation like this is perfect. I can’t say much about it’s oil control properties but after initially setting it with powder, I don’t find the need for powdering my t-zone. However, if you want heavy duty coverage, you will have to build this up considerably. But I feel it doesn’t look as good beyond 3 layers.
Despite having SPF 15, this photographs beautifully under flash and there’s no whitecast. I also like the packaging. It’s plastic and very compact, makes it easy to travel with. It is a bit difficult to judge how much foundation is left though. You get 30ml of product for $45 which is around Rs. 2700.
Comparison to Mac Face and Body : Consistency wise both are similar. F&B has no fragrance and I feel it gives a bit more coverage in one layer. Both are easily blendable and last long. However, over time Chanel is a bit more drying than Mac. In winters I definitely prefer F&B since the finish is also a bit dewy. For summers, Chanel’s semi-matte finish is perfect.
Overall, it’s a pretty good foundation which ticks all the boxes. But if I had to pick, Mac Face & Body is definitely better considering the price and also that you get more product (50ml).
