Hope you’re all having a great weekend! Time for a cult lipstick review!
I’m not a very makeup trendy person and so when I heard of Black Honey I had no idea what people were talking about. As usual, my investigation started with a quick Google search, which led to swatches, which in turn led to reviews and in the end, I was sold.
I couldn’t find this at my local Clinique counter, so I ended up getting it during my birthday haul. Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey was apparently famous in the 90s for the brown lip. What makes this lipstick special is that it flatters women of any skintone, I partially agree. I think the tint works really well at warming up the lips but some might find this too dark or too light to be a proper lipstick.
That looks very hardcore in the tube but it’s a softy! It’s very sheer and at the most I can build it up to medium coverage. But the colour is so lovely. It looks very brown when swatched but there’s a lot of red in there which really looks great on the lip. It immediately counteracts any greyness on the lips and adds warmth. It gives a bit of a stained/bitten effect, like you just chomped down blackberries.
If I need just a hint of colour, 1 or 2 swipes will do. It can be built up more with 3-4 swipes. Anything more than that would sit too heavy on the lips.
It’s comfortable to wear and very soothing. It feels balmy and quite moisturising but needs to be reapplied every 3 hours or so. It doesn’t settle into lips either.
Personally, I like the colour and will make good use of it. But if this isn’t your kind of colour, it would be a waste.
I like the sleek packaging, it’s very understated and very Clinique. It’s quite thin and can fit into any tiny clutch very easily. It’s one of my favourites to wear at work.
