Sometimes you want things out of pure materialistic tendencies and I while I strongly advocate curbing them, I do slip up at times!
Such is the story behind my purchase of the Mac Retro Matte lipsticks. On paper it’s a complete mismatch for me. For one, I prefer creamy hydrating lipsticks, my most used colours are nude ones, matte lipsticks would only make my lips drier and the wear less comfortable. But I caved in for the prettiness. Ended up buying All Fired Up and Flat Out Fabulous.
Guilty conscience aside, it really is a gorgeous colour. And I thought Ruby Woo was a great staple bright to buy. All Fired Up with it’s pinky undertone is far more pretty. All Fired Up is a bright red pink which is cool toned. Definitely looks more pink when compared to other reds.
It belongs to the Retro Matte finish which is now permanent. As you might suspect, the finish is matte. That said, it applies with more ease than Ruby Woo (which is Matte).
When you apply this there is that initial tug on your lips which can be avoided by swatching it on your hand first. It will warm up the lipstick and will be much more smooth when you apply on the lips.
It’s also insanely pigmented, You really just need 1 or 2 swipes to get a great colour payoff. You also get a even true colour despite any pigmentation on the lips. You do need to apply this to your bare lips. If they are moisturized, wait for a while before applying, otherwise it won’t adhere well to the lips and will slip around a lot.
This lasts an insanely long time on the lips, more than 8 hours including eating and drinking. You can eventually get it sort of transfer proof by blotting and applying. Does is drying on the lips though. Definitely don’t recommend wearing it if you have chapped lips. This does stain your lips, a lot.
It gives that really luxe look since it’s matte and really looks polished, but it does accentuate problem areas. This will definitely be easier to wear in summers but for winter I would avoid wearing it.
I’ll be honest, I’ve only worn this 3-4 times till now but I’m hoping I’ll use it more in the summer. You get 3g of product for $15 or Rs. 990. I feel like retro matte lipsticks have a stronger Vanilla scent than other Mac ones.
