Mac Face and Body Foundation in C4

Are you tired of the phrase “holy grail product”? Well, sorry, you’re going to subjected to that today because I’m way too excited to share this review! Anyone who hasn’t tried this foundation needs to try it. Yes, for once, the hype around it is true. I resisted buying this for a long time as I was quite happy with my Nars Sheer Glow. If you ask me to chose now, I’d pick Mac Face and Body for sure. It’s not that the Nars one isn’t good, but personally I just like the texture and consistency of this one so much more.

So, here it is. My holy grail foundation! I bit of a background first though. I have dry skin and I’m most comfortable with lightweight sheer-medium coverage.

Mac Face and Body Foundation is a light liquid foundation which gives sheer to medium coverage. I was matched to C4 (I’m around NC40) and it’s perfect for me. Since my skin is a bit uneven, it gets tricky to get a match. Too light looks weird, a match to the darker parts also looks weird. So I generally go for something in the middle and that’s exactly C4. I really love how this feels on my skin. It’s sheer and can be built up to heavy coverage as well. But I will say this, it looks best with 2-3 layers and above that it can look a bit too flat.

Two layers of this and my skin looks even. I still need concealer but only around my eyes and little bit over blemishes if I have any. It cancels out any redness near my nose as well. In the end, it looks very natural. It hugs the contour of your skin and smooths over minor problems like small pores and tiny spots.

It’s the kind of foundation you need to shake well before you use. It’s runny but not as much as Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua or Diorskin Nude. It’s more like Nars Sheer Glow in that regard. I like applying this with either my Elf Pro Stippling Brush or my Sigma F80 Flat-top Kabuki brush. Either work well but I feel the Sigma one does a better job at blending when I’m applying more layers. Needless to say, this goes beautifully on the skin and blends very easily. I generally dot it all over my face and then go over in circles and repeat.

You can see in the before after picture (below) that it’s not too dewy and not too matte. If you have oily skin, you may still want to use powder over it. I use it very lightly just so it sets. Between this and Nars Sheer Glow, the later is a little bit dewy and better for dry skin. If I’ve moisturized properly, I don’t have any problems with dry patches showing through etc throughout it’s wear. On me, I feel like it’s almost a bit satiny but someone with oily skin might feel otherwise. This isn’t the best foundation if you’re looking for oil control and a full coverage matte finish.

I usually wear tinted moisturizer in the day and foundation when I’m going out and more formal events etc. So, it’s very important that there’s no whitecast. This foundation is perfect since it doesn’t have any SPF, it’s made for flash photography! Also the reason why it’s used for weddings and all.

This is pretty long lasting. It wears well over 8 hours. Generally even after 6 hours it looks pretty intact and fresh but fades a little afterwards. I’ve worn this all day from 9am to 10pm and it was still on my face albeit very sheer.

I also like the packaging and the nozzle. There’s no wastage and it’s light to travel with as well. This is one purchase I’m so glad I made! If you want to invest in a good foundation, I highly suggest this one. It really works well for all skin types. If you’re new to makeup, the light consistency makes this easier to blend and work with.

I’ve used 2 layers of the foundation for the before-after picture. I’ve also kept my eyes closed so you can see how it looks over heavy pigmentation. It doesn’t do much so you definitely need a concealer!

I bought this at an airport (yay for dutyfree) so I’m not sure if it’s available in all Mac stores in India or just the Pro ones. You get 50ml of product for Rs.1700 but I think the price has increased now. You also get the larger 120ml versions but I guess it’s more useful for MUAs.

It’s my favorite foundation as well. I wear c 3 most of the time but I tan easily so I like to have c4 around and it looks amazing. Once my tan starts to fade, I mix the two in different ratios.
For you, I think c4 is too light. I’d try mixing a bit of c5 in it for a perfect match…
