Hello there! I’m having a great start to the week, which doesn’t happen very often! I’m actually moving to a new place in a month so I’ve been spending a lot of time looking at faucets, wall colours and door knobs. It’s fun and frustrating at the same time! I’m the point where I just want everything to be done magically and finally move in!
Today’s lipstick is a firm favourite. I wanted it for years and bought it last year (thankfully before the price increase), it’s Mac Girl About Town. Does this lipstick have cult status yet?
Anyway, the reason Girl About Town is so appealing is the colour itself. Fuchsia is too simplistic to describe it. I can looks more warm on some skintones although it is primarily cool. It maintains that balance where it wouldn’t look neon or way too bright. I’ve worn this on a lot of occasions and it’s a lovely colour. It brightens up your face, makes your teeth look whiter and overall it’s a very wearable hot pink.
The Amplified Creme formula makes this a very pigmented, creamy and a moisturising lipstick. It doesn’t hydrate exactly but won’t dry out your lips either. In general it doesn’t settle into lines and can gloss over small areas of dryness but chapped lips will be emphasized. It can also be worn over a light lip balm. It’s not the most lightweight creamy formula that I’ve tried, but comfortable enough. There is some slip but it won’t bleed or feather. You can also blot and reapply if you want it to last longer.
This wears well for around 6-7 hours and fades evenly leaving a stain behind. It can survive a drink or snack but it’s best to layer on the lipstick as it will transfer a bit. It will come off if you’re having oily foods or a heavy meal. I’ve worn this to weddings and receptions a lot and I’ve generally had to reapply it after a meal.
I also really like the finish; with very bright colours I prefer a matte or satin finish. I wouldn’t really call this semi matte but it doesn’t have a lot of shine. I also love the vanilla scent. Mac packaging is alright for me. I like the click but hate that I can’t tell them apart. You get 3g of product for $16 or Rs. 1190 in India.
If you’re looking for dupes, I don’t have an exact one but I have almosts. Estee Lauder Envy Sculpting Lipstick in Dominant is lightweight, pigmented and the shade a bit more cool toned. Givenchy Le Rouge in Fuchsia Irresistible and Maybelline Colorsensational Vivids in Vivid Rose are warmer but in the same intensity. Rimmel Kate Lasting Finish in 20 is brighter and more neon like. I’ve also heard that Covergirl Spellbound is a good dupe shade, I don’t have it though.
If you’re looking to buy a bright pink lipstick, you will be spoilt for choice and there are a lot of drugstore ones but if you do decide to get GAT, it’ll be worth it.
