My Skincare Routine | Face Masks & Extras

Hi guys! Now that we’re done with the entire AM & PM routine, here are few of the extra bits I like to use. My face mask routine as such as quite methodical.

On Wednesdays, right on the middle of the week it’s time for a deep cleansing mask followed by a hydrating one.

On Saturdays, my exfoliating mask and I have some time together. I don’t always follow up with a hydrating mask. It depends, whether I’m going out later or not.

  • Exfoliating Mask : Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant : Review : I’ve been using this consistently for 2-3 years now and it’s the only exfoliant I use. It contains mainly lactic acid which helps slough off those dead skin cells. A lot of the times this is the only thing that actually gets rid of my dry patches. It does sting for a little while but it’s nothing you can’t handle. After 15 minutes I like going in with a warm washcloth and gently rubbing it all off, my face instantly appears brighter. I also like using this before any special occasion. If so, I try to not use this more than twice a week.
  • Deep Cleansing Mask : Alpha-H Balancing and Pore Refining Mask : Review : Behold, a clay mask that doesn’t dry me out (too  much)! The clay is a bit thick but still easy to apply. Since I’ve started using these deep cleansing masks it’s really helped with clearing out pores on my nose and cheeks where they are more prominent. I love the lavender scent too, it’s strong but very soothing when you apply this and just stay still for 10 minutes. In the end, my face is just really clean. I always follow up with a hydrating mask like the Origins one or just a face sheet.
  • Deep Cleansing MaskAesop Parsley Seed Cleansing Masque : A good alternative for the mask above if you find the scent and mask too strong. This is pretty much a milder version of the Alpha-H mask. The consistency is more liquid-y and the scent is mild. Subsequently, it’s very comfortable to wear particularly in dry winters, doesn’t make my face feel tight. Right now I really don’t have a preference between the two, I love them both!
  • Hydrating Mask : Origins Drink Up 10 Minute Mask : It smells like a fruity cocktail but this mask just instantly plumps up your skin. It’s a soft cream, very fluffy and it sets to a colourless finish. I leave it on for a bit longer though, almost 20 minutes. After taking it off there’s a bit of a film over your face which I don’t really mind.  I generally don’t need a serum or a moisturiser after it unless it’s really dry.

  • Face Sheet : My Beauty Dairy Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizing Mask : I was trying out a bunch of face sheets last year and these two are ones that I really like. The Hyaluronic acid mask just works so well at adding moisture back in the skin. The effects only last overnight or perhaps a little over a day but my skin is really soft after using this. There’s a lot of serum in here so I generally also use it on my neck.
  • Face Sheet : My Beauty Dairy Imperial Bird’s Nest Mask : I generally prefer the mask above but this one also hydrates and brightens my face. It’s works well but it’s not one I’d repurchase, simply because I think the Hyaluronic Mask is better at retaining moisture for a longer time.
  • Blemish Control : La Roche Posay Effaclar A.I. : Review : My chin is what I first look at when I wake up, examining if there are any spots. I don’t apply spot treatments during the day when I’m out but after I get home and cleanse, this goes right over the spot where it’s needed. If it’s a tiny blemish, this helps in drying it out without wrecking the skin surrounding it (like the Effaclar Duo). This doesn’t make spots disappear overnight but if a normal blemish stays for 4 days, this cuts it short to 2 days.
  • Hand Cream : L’occitane Pivoine Flora Hand Cream : Review : For the last two years I’ve been using hand creams quite regularly at night, also massaging them near my cuticles. I’ve used quite a few of the L’occitane ones, they are really moisturising and quick to absorb. This particular one has a rose scent which is mild and really lovely.

There’s more makeup posts headed your way now. 😉

I haven’t tried any of these masks but a few have definitely caught my attention. The Dermalogica Cream Exfoliant sounds really nice will definitely have to look into it and I’d love to try a face mask soon as I’ve never done one so will take note of these x

I really recommend the Dermalogica one. It might sting in the beginning if you’re not used to AHAs. In general it stings in areas where there is dry/dead skin.

You need to have some Oskia in your life.. Thats all that I have been using and I have been pretty much out of trouble inspite of a history of breaking out and problem skin during spring/summer! :-) Love Aesop.. and I am curious about My Beauty Diary.. where do you buy those?

    • http://www.xuvious.com/ Xuvious

The Asian beauty websites like Sasa or Yesstyle carry them. :)

That Origins Drink Up mask sounds nice! I wonder what it would do for your skin if you left it on overnight…

    • http://www.xuvious.com/ Xuvious

I imagine it still hydrate my skin really well but I take it off because it is quite creamy. I don’t want it all over my hair and pillow. 😉

Very true! I was scared about the stinging when I first started using it but I’m come to embrace it now. It’s eating up all the dead skin. 😉

You will LOVE Aesop! Correct me if I’m wrong but you have dry skin too, right? It’s great for that type. :)

Yep, already in my wishlist. I have very dry skin right now.

ah, i love the aesop and origins masks, they’re two of my favourites as well! i’ve found sometimes using glycolic acid based products can be a bit much for my skin when i leave them on for too long (i have a couple of AHA masks that i rotate) so i just have to make sure i’m careful with them and only leave them on for a couple of minutes at a time. but i think once they’re doing i’m going to look into something like that dermalogica one as lactic acid is meant to be more gentle on the skin but no less effective, so it’d be great to give that a try.

Yes, that’s also what I came up with when I was reading about AHA’s. Thankfully there are a lot of options with Lactic Acid. :)
