Two things you need to know about this product – 1. It’s (almost) a dupe for Mac Impassioned and b. It pretty fabulous!
Time to move on to details! Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm released many moons ago in UK and US. They finally heard our cries in India and put us out of our misery. They come in 8 shades and today I’ll be reviewing Unapologetic, a shade which you must swatch or try once even if you aren’t buying it!
Unapologetic is a bright neon pink. It’s a very warm toned pink and very similar to Mac Impassioned (see comparison below). This compliments warm skintones really well, the only slight problem being that it makes your teeth appear more yellow.
These are also very very pigmented. You get true colour even on pigmented lips with just 2 swipes. Matte Balms unlike the Kissable Stain ones are very creamy and thick in consistency. They dry to a semi matte / velvet finish. It’s not the kind of matte you’d get with Mac Ruby Woo or even the Retro Matte range. It’s closer to that of the Lakme 9 to 5 range or the Burberry Lip Velvets.
I’m not completely happy with the application though. I don’t know if it’s only with this shade or the entire range, but it does have a tendency to look patchy and streaky. It’s best to use the sides of the crayon to apply in a wide swipe rather than the pointy end. With an even application, it lasts well for 4-5 hours but but beyond that there is some patchiness that shows through. This can overall wear for 7-8 hours but you might want to reapply in between if you want it to look polished.
I wouldn’t say these are weightless but they are very comfortable to wear unlike some very creamy lipsticks. It stays put and doesn’t slip around once it’s set after a few minutes. I also like that they don’t settle into lines. This won’t look at great if you have a lot of unevenness or chapped lips though. Also, another thing to note, these aren’t transfer proof. They do come off with Bioderma but can leave a stain behind.
These also have a minty scent, it sort of zings for a while when you apply it. I know a lot of people don’t mind the mint but I personally dislike it. It just reminds me of toothpaste!
The packaging is so pretty. You get a matte tube with an exact colour so can immediately identify the colour and finish. It’s also retractable so no product wastage due to sharpening. Pretty much perfect! I’d really hoped they’d stick to Rs. 600 but it’s priced at Rs.800 (for 2.7g). I still can’t find these in any of the online stores but it is available on Revlon counters. I’ve only linked the brand pages below but I’ll update them once it’s available online.
If you’re after the colour, buying this is more economical than buying Mac Impassioned considering the price rise and also if you aren’t going to wear this everyday.
