Sally Hansen Lustre Shine Nail Polish in Azure

There are handful of colours which make my heart stop (hopefully not literally) when I see them. Dark blues, blurples… you can see why this purchase was made.

Sally Hansen Lustre Shine in Azure is that perfect metallic royal blue or a sapphire blue which doesn’t look purple or navy! If you are a blurple fanatic like me, you know how important this is! It’s actually a royal blue and black duochrome.

When you apply the first layer, it almost looks grey with blue iridescence. It’s a very sheer polish and you need atleast 3-4 coats to get an opaque look like below. It’s uneven as it’s sheer, but as you build up layers it evens out pretty nicely. There’s also a bit of pearly bits in it which give it that car paint kind of effect. The consistency is thin and doesn’t streak.

It’s very glossy and shiny, despite not being very bright, it’s very eye catching. The shine fades over time so a topcoat is a must. This lasts well for a week without any major chipping, no peeling either. This takes more work as you have to apply so many coats but they do dry a lot quicker than a thick coat.

Overall, it’s the colour the drew me to it. The Lustre Shine range has other duochromes as well but this blue-black one is what I’ve been wanting for quite some time. I think there’s also a similar range by Models Own which has duochrome polishes. Chanel Bel-Argus is a lighter blue although it has a similar duochrome effect. Guerlain Riviera is a close match.

The packaging looks really pretty but the cap is actually a bit wobbly and the cheap plastic kind. Still, it’s a drugstore brand and it’s not much to complain about. The brush is wide and easy to work with. You get 10ml for $7-8 which is around Rs. 460. I haven’t seen these in India yet but you can get them on eBay (links given below).
