I love cleansing oils! It’s a cleanser and makeup remover in one and it works brilliantly. For the longest time I was using the Origins Clean Energy Gentle Cleansing Oil and I eventually wanted to try something different. I had heard a lot of praises about the Shu Uemura one and decided to get it. While this was an expensive purchase, it’s lasted me for so long and it’s just the perfect cleansing oil.
Before I review, I have to apologize for the appalling photos in this post. I’d already used up and thrown away the bottle, so I couldn’t take new photos. I thought I already had some decent photos but turns out these are the only ones I took. #fail.
Shu Uemura Skin Purifier Whitefficient Clear Brightening Gentle Cleansing Oil, perhaps the longest product name yet, is a lovely cleansing oil which takes off every last bit of makeup on your face. There are 4-5 different types of cleansing oils in the Shu Uemura range, this is one is meant to brightening the skin which it does so by removing dead cells. Honestly, I didn’t pay much attention to the brightening part, plus that’s hard to judge when the cleanser itself makes your face squeaky clean!
It’s a thin colourless oil which feels to smooth and silky on the skin. You apply it to a dry face first, just massaging it in and you can literally see your makeup disintegrate and melt. The messy child in me likes seeing my mascara turn black all around my eyes. My one condition when it comes to cleansers is being safe to use around the eye and this one doesn’t irritate them. I really work it into my waterline and upper lash line to get that last bit of eyeliner out and it feels very gentle. There is some cloudiness if you splash it too much across your eye but can generally be avoided.
After working with just the oil, I wet my palms and start massaging again, the oil emulsifies to a white milky texture. After your rinse it off your face is just so squeaky clean! I have dry skin and while I can’t stay long without a moisturizer, this doesn’t dry out my face. It feels very soft and plump. If you do apply a lot of heavy makeup and pile on waterproof mascara, it might be a good idea to do a double cleanse with this.
I love the packaging as well. The blue bottle so attractive and the pump gives out a good amount of product. I generally just need one unless I’m trying to remove a matte lipstick as well. I have the 150ml version but you also get a 450ml one. It’s quite pricey at around Rs. 2500 and lasted me for around 8-9 months, so it’s up to your budget. Honestly, there are cleansing oils available in India now like Colorbar, The Body Shop etc so it’s worth checking those out. It wasn’t really available when I initially bought this.
