Hey everyone! It’s been a while! Hope you’re all having a great weekend! I have a lot of catching up to do, I’ll probably be glued to my laptop all weekend.
Few lipsticks bring out such excitement in me! Plum Lush caught my eye ever since I first spotted it on Temptalia. Initially I scoffed at a lipstick costing $50. Funny how that changes. Every review of the Matte formula made the decision easier though. It was just a matter of when I’d get it. I put it off for a long time mainly because $50 creates a mental barrier which is difficult to break. Oh well, now that it’s all done, I’m so pleased with my purchase!
Tom Ford Lip Color Matte in Plum Lush is one of my favourite kind of colours, bright berry pinks! Think Revlon’s iconic Cherries in the Snow but lighter and of course, matte. The cool tone makes your teeth appear more white, it’s a colour that isn’t obnoxiously bright and is appropriate for any occasion.
It’s very pigmented so you generally just need to swipe once and it feels very creamy. It doesn’t emphasize any lines or settle into them as the hours go by. Despite the ‘matte’ label, this isn’t to be mistaken for a dry powdery transfer proof matte. It’s more of a velvet matte finish which has the tiniest bit of sheen but very comfortable to wear. Speaking of comfort, I won’t say these are hydrating but they aren’t drying either which is good enough for me when it comes to mattes!
I love how this wears. Typically it will last a good 6-7 hours but if you’re eating, this won’t completely come off or leave a ring around the lips. It fades evenly and settles to a stain which I quite like. I’ve also worn this over a lip liner, blotting it twice and it’s worn well through meals, heat and long hours.
The packaging is so gorgeous! It’s weighty, the gold lines look very modern and while there’s no magnetic twisting of the cap, there’s that satisfying click to keep you entertained. I baby this lipstick a lot though. I haven’t thrown away the cover, I’ve actually been using the back of the lipstick to avoid the TF from getting smudged completely. This madness has to stop!
The price of course is problematic at $50 for 3g, but the colour and formula combination make it so worth it for me. I’ve worn this for a lot of special events and it just makes it more memorable for me. Also, I hear the Lips & Boys collection is making a comeback if you want to get these at $32! It’s not available in India but I have listed a couple of retailers below.
In my opinion, the formula isn’t so revolutionary now that you need to get this. L’oreal Moist Matte Lipsticks or even Chanel Rouge Allure perform really well and there are increasingly more options and alternatives available. For me it really was about the experience of using a great lipstick, the colour, the packaging and the formula. A mix of it all that makes it worth it to me.
