I am a little hungover as I write this. Hopefully, it shouldn’t affect my writing too much. Let’s see what happens!
I hauled this gorgeous lipstick a few months back and thought I’d review it. It’s from the YSL Rouge Volupte Shine range which carries sheer moisturizing lipsticks. The packaging is very similar to the Rouge Volupte range, which are the creamier ones. I think you can tell by the colour of the YSL design which is silver for the Shine range and gold for the regular Rouge Volupte range.
Anyway, this particular lipstick is No. 6 called Pink in Devotion. It’s a bright warm pink which will look good on anyone. You can add just a wash of this for a natural colour or build it up to give a more bright look. I’d say this gives sheer to medium coverage. I always tend to pick brown rose pink kinda shades but this time I thought I’d go for something bright! I love wearing this in the evenings when I’m going out, I also like to add a more unconventional lip gloss over it like orange or purple. This a more warm toned pink but it looks a bit blue toned on me due to my natural lip colour.
This feels amazing on the lips, literally like you’ve got nothing on. If you live in a hot climate, the last thing you need is that feeling of something heavy all over your lips (I hate it!!). These are very light on the lips even with with full build up. They have a little bit of slip but they don’t bleed and gather around the edges.
It gives the lips a very even appearance. I had slightly chapped lips when I took the pictures below and you can’t see any sign of that. It doesn’t settle into lines either. The finish is glossy but not as much as a lip gloss.
I would say that the lip butters are very similar in the finish they give but the textures are slightly different. This one is more balmy but light whereas the lip butters feel more slippery and creamy (especially the more pigmented shades). Still, if you’re not too picky, lip butters are a good alternative.
Like most sheer lipsticks, the con is that these don’t stay on too long. I’d say around 4 hours if you don’t eat or drink too much. If you plan on wearing this all day, you would need to reapply. Another tip would be to use a lip liner underneath to help this stay on longer. It fades pretty evenly leaving a little stain behind.
I feel fine wearing these even without a moisturizer. When they do fade, it doesn’t dry out my lips, they just feel normal. They keep your lips moisturized while they’re on. These also have a subtle Mango scent which is yummy!
Now we come to the packaging. Obviously, it’s gorgeous and a more like a show piece even without the lipstick. But practically, there are some things I’d like to mention. First, this is very sturdy. It feels weighted which is good, the cap is not flimsy and sits tight. They show a good representation of the colour outside which really helps to locate it easily. I hate it when high end brands don’t show the shade outside. I’m looking at you Mac and Chanel! The finish is also reflective and easy to clean, doesn’t get too many fingerprints. I’m looking at you Nars! It’s just pretty to look at. I am aware of how incredibly shallow that sounds, but it does… ^_^
This costs $34 which is around Rs. 2200 now. Yikes! I will say this. If you like sheer lipsticks and wear them more often, this is a nice lipstick to treat yourself. Also, it’s a fabulous gift to give.
