Spring 2014 Couture shows have their last stop here! Blown away by Zuhair Murad’s collection. Viktor & Rolf had a ballet inspiration while Valentino was musical and operatic.
The inspiration is very loud and vivid with music and wildlife. I love the burgundy dress with the snake motif running across. The slate grey plane gown was also very elegant, as were the gowns with floral applique and...
Hey guys! I’m in Goa at the moment so the posts till Monday will be scheduled! It’s going to be a very relaxing weekend. Hope you all have a great time as well! ^_^
Spring 2014 Couture shows continue here! I’m always blown away my Elie Saab and Armani Prive collections, they always have that glamour quotient when I enjoy looking at.
The indigo and midnight blues are here to stay. The head scarf lives the collection a very easy and resort feel. The palazzo pants with slits and the jackets in this collection are superb. We then get glimmering lacey gowns which are so layered it gives a very dimensional look. I also like the taupe gowns at the end, it...
Hey guys! Hope you are all having an amazing weekend!
Here’s more from the Spring 2014 Couture shows with collections from Ulyana Sergeenko, Bouchra Jarrar and Vionnet.
The collection feels very cinematic and powerful. It’s the silhouettes with the right balance of structure and draping. It’s also inspired by Central Asia and carries motifs and symbols from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and the region. I love the suits and the powder blue dress. Sergeenko’s collections are always a nod to her Russian heritage, but it’s nice to see her venture out for...
The spring couture shows at Paris continued with exceptional collections from Giambattista Valli with his floral magnificence, Alexis Mabille with the artful elegance and Chanel with the icy and young collection.
They are stellar and very red carpet worthy!
It’s a collection that any girl would dream off but rather than going the pastel route, Valli used striking contrasts that made the collection bold. I love the draping in the bow shape, almost a peplum but not quite, it looked very elegant. The appliques are placed perfectly really make a statement. I loved the gown with blue applique and coral tulle. The shorter mint dress with leaves and a bejeweled collar is...
I’m back from Jaipur! JLF was really good this time, discovered so many new authors like Philip Hensher, Jim Crace, Jonathan Franzen etc. Also loved the sessions with Gloria Steinem and Amartya Sen.
But anyway, I was so pumped about next month because of fashion week that it sort of slipped my mind that the Spring Couture shows take place right now! This actually happens every year, but I just caught it in time this year!
The inspiration for this collection was the iconic Grace Kelly in that classic hood giving an overall innocence. Donatella’s couture collection drew from that and ventured out into a distinct Versace mode. There was structure and showing off the...
As Delhi Couture Week progressed, we saw amazing collections from Anju Modi, Masaba and Monisha Jaising.
I loved the story and inspiration of Draupadi behind this. There’s always an interesting way to style up a red lehenga and we had plenty of that in this collection. I loved the neckline and the tie up on top.
Masaba for Satya Paul
I love how Masaba plays with prints, it’s large and subtle at the same time. I loved the large lime...
Delhi Couture Week was right after IBFW and just as fabulous. I digress but on Monday I had my lower wisdom tooth removed… it’s been like hell. I have to take so many medicines and I’m constantly falling asleep. Wasted two complete days doing absolutely nothing. I’ve had my upper wisdom teeth removed before and it was nowhere as bad as this! :/ I hope none of you are plagued with dental work, it’s the absolute worst.
So, anyway… moving on, here’s Sabyasachi, Anamika Khanna and Varun Bahl!
This collection is just so glam! I like the sheer sequins work, it’s just so rich. But it isn’t heavy or gaudy and I love how...
So this will be the final post on Indian Bridal Fashion Week 2013 but there will be more couture with the Delhi Couture Week! There’s Adarh Gill, Suneet Verma and Ashima Leena.
You could say the styling seemed a bit retro but the clothes definitely weren’t and I saw a disconnect. What started out with intricate black and gold pieces, ventured into jewel tones and corals. I love the details and the simple silhouettes...
Indian Bridal Fashion Week 2013 continued with stellar collections from Tarun Tahiliani, Shantanu & Nikhil and of course, JJ Valaya.
The first few outfits played with a saree and draping, very understated and elegant. Then came out the more heavier pieces and they are just gorgeous! I love the orange/coral...
Indian Bridal Fashion Week 2013 was last month but I’m just catching up with all the couture! All the clothes are to die for and each has it’s unique inspiration.
Rohit Bal’s collection is inpired by Elizabethan silhouettes with all the work and craftsmanship of the ethnic aesthetic. With high high collars and corsets, there is a sensual element to the clothes. No Indian bridal show is done without crimson and while this collection has it’s monochromes and blues, the reds are just as luxurious. The tie-dye, heavy embroidery and velvet is an interesting combination but worthy of any bride...
So here’s my final post on the Fall 2013 Couture collections. Giambattista Valli in a gorgeous floral collection, Atelier Versace bringing sexy back, Jean Paul Gaultier and cougars and finally, Ulyana Sergeenko with her take on vintage with a modern twist.
Inspired by porcelain, I love this collection. The silhouettes are daring but look less harsh because of the beautiful prints and...
Carrying on the couture theme, I’ll be showing fall couture collections from Armani Prive, Schiaparelli (what?! YES!), Christian Dior and Alexis Mabille! I have to say Armani was my favourite, love the simplicity and elegance.
Armani called this collection ‘Nude’ and well, no one can dispute that. But it’s classy, elegant and luxe in its simplicity. It also exudes power and command. With a good balance of daywear and evening wear, this might the be the best collection yet. I really love the coats in this. The pale lilac long coat and the shorter satin one. The gowns also look feather light and very soft and...
I know it’s not really on schedule but I couldn’t do without posting the Fall 2013 Couture Week. I won’t be doing them individually in super detail like I used to. I had a lot of free time back then to think about what I wanted to write and really, to just look at the collections and reflect on them. Unfortunately, time to reflect is a luxury that I can’t afford anymore.
Today, I’ll be sharing collections by Zuhair Murad, Elie Saab, Chanel and Valentino! Enjoy the unattainables!
Stciking to his sensibilities, Zuhair Murad’s collection was over the top, red carpet worthy and more opulent than most. Featuring entirely in lavish evening...
Malson Martin Margiela has a collection that embodies architechtural inspirations from New York. I happen to like the jewel encrusted masks. I suppose they would make good headgear instead.
The belt fastenings on the dresses are meant to depict a doorknob from a plush New York building. But I like the different styles incorporated. They seem to cover every trend this season. But I wish there was more fluency.
Love the sheer lace trousers.

Jean Paul Gaultier has a very exciting couture collection this season. He draws inspiration from artists, writers in Paris. The collection is very masculine and edgy. There’s a mix of leather and fabric which embodies hard and soft aspects of the look. The jeweltoned dresses and gowns have exaggerated collars and frames at the hips to emphasize it. But you also have intricately designed gowns in flattering colours.
I love the black mesh maxi dresses and colourful geometric patched pants.
