Fall 2013 Couture : Zuhair Murad, Elie Saab, Chanel, Valentino

I know it’s not really on schedule but I couldn’t do without posting the Fall 2013 Couture Week. I won’t be doing them individually in super detail like I used to. I had  a lot of free time back then to think about what I wanted to write and really, to just look at the collections and reflect on them. Unfortunately, time to reflect is a luxury that I can’t afford anymore.

Today, I’ll be sharing collections by Zuhair Murad, Elie Saab, Chanel and Valentino! Enjoy the unattainables!

Zuhair Murad

Stciking to his sensibilities, Zuhair Murad’s collection was over the top, red carpet worthy and more opulent than most. Featuring entirely in lavish evening wear, the collection had a gothic and dark facade only to reveal the intricate embroidery, beading and other techniques. I love the muted garnet shade, its jewel tone but different from the usual ruby. The high necks and vine like branches wrapping the silhouette look very distinct and true to the theme. I love the opening delicate white gown and some  of the separates, though they look very heavy!

Elie Saab

Elie Saab had a couture collection which was immensely anticipated. I always look forward to them, to see what more he can bring to the table. This time I wasn’t in awe as I usually am. I thought the silhouettes were a lot more varied in terms of selection. The jewel tones, while very beautiful is a theme not unheard of. Even so, there are certain pieces here that despite my slight disappointment, I must praise! I loved the ruby shade gowns, they look so bold and sensual. I didn’t have much liking for the blues as I found the colour to look a bit lacklustre in comparison to the others. But the soft beige and taupe gowns looked so beautiful.

Chanel

I had a mixed reaction to the Chanel couture collection. On the surface the ensembles look so unflattering and busy, but when taken apart I can appreciate the work and distinctness it would bring to that outfit. I found the placement of the oversize belts to be very distracting and odd. Some of the sleeker pieces with folds and monotone scheme looked very chic and polished. Graphic patterns were a high in this collection among the traditional attire. But I didn’t feel particularly drawn to anything.

Valentino

Valentino had a collection focusing on day wear and very much inspired by architecture. It was bold, the colours very earthy and flattering that still  made the clothes look rich and not ordinary. The finale piece is truly one of the most inspiring pieces in this collection with the maroon velvet against the large thematic skirt. Using simple silhouettes with bold embroidery and patterns makes this collection very wearable.

Elie Saab can do no wrong. Zuhar Murad’s felt a bit overdone for my taste, but if people want more bling, it’s the best. 😉
