Mid way through New York Fashion Week, most of the collections were showcased in an incredibly busy and tight schedule. These three stood out very distinctly.
Like his previous collection, Christian Siriano is certainly inspired by Russia. The black dress with a sheer cape and gold embroidery hits it spot on and for me that was the best piece in the collection. It starts very hard and dark with fur, knits and leather in a mix. When you see gold you expect a tad bit more glamour in the collection and her didn’t disappoint. I love the sheer ethereal gold dresses as much as I loved the fitted blazer with fur large trimmings.
Inspired by boxing, the ‘hand warmers’ and caps gave a very artistic look to the collection. I proportions of the clothes themselves is something I don’t identify with and it doesn’t seem very wearable. But, you have to marvel at the techniques. The mohair has such a soft and delicate appearance, it’s mesmerizing. There are lots of separates here that will definitely find an audience. The grey quilted iridescent jumper for instance look one of a kind as does the blue and black toned coat with an asymmetric zipper down the front.
Deconstruction and botanicals was a major part of this collection. he played with volume and while it was largely unflattering, there were gems in the collection. The simple white layered peplum is so beautiful, the flared skirt dress with a jacket in it’s many muted colours looks very flattering. The muted shades make it very appropriate for fall in my mind.
