Met Ball 2013 Red Carpet Part 1

The Met Gala is here! I love seeing the red carpet for the sheer number of brilliant wacky creations that you otherwise only get to se eon runways. This years exhibition was on the theme Punk : Chaos to Couture. While some chose to dress in the theme, others ignored it. But either way, lets take a look at what the ladies donned.

 Hilary Rhoda

in Wes Gordon

I love the pants and gown combo. This particular lace and sheer bodice looks really beautiful. I love her hair and makeup as well.

Anna Wintour

in Chanel Haute Couture

She looks appropriate. It’s definitely a gown that stood out on the red carpet, in a way, because of it’s simplicity.

 Lauren Santo Domingo

in Dolce & Gabbana

This is on a lot of worst dressed lists but really, I do like it. It might look very retro but it has that hint of sexy. And really, if not the Met Gala, where else could you wear this?

 Constance Jablonski

in Wes Gordon

Yes, that is also Wes Gordon next to her. Isn’t this modern chic punk at it’s best? That harness really pulls the look together (no pun intended). And that metallic yellow gold is really striking and beautiful.

 Coco Rocha

in Emanuel Ungaro

Umm, this is too weird. I feel like if the gown was without the applique, it had the strong shoulders and slit to make it unique. The applique just looks crafty. I love her hair but perhaps a bold lip would have helped.

 Ashley Olsen

in Christian Dior

Umm, channeling the Sun Goddess perhaps? I do like the dress without that stiff cape thing though.

 Liya Kebede

in Alberta Feretti

This is certainly one of the more classic and avan garde mix looks, she looks brilliant.

 Mary-Kate Olsen

in Chanel and Balmain

If it wasn’t for that crazy hair and make up which makes her look old, I might have liked this combo. I like the dress a lot, the coat, not so much.

 Miranda Kerr

in Michael Kors

She looks so stunning and sexy in this. Love the look and the spiky clutch.

 Linda Evengelista

in Marchesa

The collar detail and colour of this gown is beautiful. But the sleeves with that ‘princessy’ updo just killed it for me.

 Alexa Chung

in Erdem

People might say a lot of shit about her, but she knows how to dress and make a statement. Brilliant dress! And I like the simple hair and makeup here.

 Rosie Huntingon-Whiteley

in Gucci

I love the gown and her look, so fierce!

 Lily Aldridge

in Tommy Hilfiger

It’s rather simple, but she looks quite good. Love, the bold lip and that yellow looks really good on her.

 Cara Delevingne

in Burberry Prorsum

This was one of  my favourites. It’s punk but still elegant. I love her hair and styling as well.

 Donatella Versace

in custom Versace

Isn’t that just amazing? I love the spiky bits of the arm and shoulder. I wonder how many people got injured while making this though…

 Sarah Jessica Parker

in a Giles Deacon ensemble with Philip Treacy hat

It’s so extravagant and out of this world that you have to admire it! I love love the boots! Only SJP could have pulled this off.

 Vera Wang

in custom Vera Wang

I dunno, it feel like it shows too much, didn’t like it on her at all.

 Madonna

in custom Givenchy

The Queen has arrived. She looked like the leader of the rebels. Absolutely embodied the theme. Flawless look is flawless.

 Miley Cyrus

in Marc Jacobs

You may not like the hair but this is one of the best thematic dress on the red carpet. And she carries it off well with spunk.

 Jennifer Morrison

in Donna Karan Atelier

I love the gown. It has that rugged sort of look is has a very punk feel to it and of course, the hair!!

 Rooney Mara

in custom Givenchy

On first look, you don’t see any punk here except maybe the bold lip. But she still channels the Lisbeth persona and the seemingly angelic dress looks tougher. I love that transformation.

 Nina Dobrev

in Monique Lhuillier

She looks fab and stunning. Love the pantsuit and leather bodice. On a side note though, how annoying is Elena this season?

 Kim Kardahsian

in Givenchy

*gulp* Soooo not the dress you ought to wear when you are pregnant or if you have awesome curves. I wish she had chosen something softer and flowing that didn’t make her look so shapeless. Terrible choice.

kim kardashian in riccardo tisci

 Elle Fanning

in Rodarte

It’s a brilliant gown that very few and pull off and this is a good example of how to not wear it. The hair and makeup just ruined this.

elle fanning in rodarte

 Minka Kelly

in Carolina Herrera

I do like the dress, but it just looks so stiff and hard on her.

minka kelly in carolina herrera

 Karolina Kurkova

in Mary Katrantzou

The dress is certainly not for the timid and while she has the conviction and confidence to carry it off, it just didn’t suit the occasion.

karolina kurkova in mary katrantzou

 Kerry Washington

in Vera Wang

I’m not sure what it is, but the whole look just feels off. It’s not any one thing in particular. The hair with that makeup, with that gown, with those gloves, it just doesn’t make a good fit.

kerry washington in vera wang

 Katie Holmes

in Calvin Klein

Simple and beautiful. The nude lip really gives her a delicate appearance.

 Chloe Sevigny

in Proenza Schouler

The gown is rocking but the turban if it were styled different would have given her a more youthful and edgy look. She looks older than the is and the make up certainly doesn’t help.

"PUNK: Chaos To Couture" Costume Institute Gala

 Jessica Alba

in Tory Burch

She looks stunning in the gown, I love it.

 Kristen Durst

in Louis Vuitton

I’m on the fence about this look, I feel like there’s too much going on and doesn’t give her shape. But the love the colour and how it looks on her.

So, this is the end of part one! My queen Madonna was possibly the best dressed along with Cara Delevingne, Rooney Mara, Miley Cyrus and Constance Jablonski. Stay tuned for part 2! There’s more to come.
