Fall 2012 RTW : Anna Sui

Fall 2012 RTW : Anna Sui

Anna Sui's aesthetic is so vibrant and an explosion of colours, its one of the collections I'm always eager to see. I loved the blue-green-cerulean combinations. The floral blouses with peter pan collars, thick ruffle trims. And the owls are so adorable! The round sunglasses complimented the retro vibe. I also liked all the accessories and stament jewellery. Somehow, I feel that coloured tights still need to be in and I was happy to see that as a part of the collection here. I so want the belt on the opening look along…Read more
Fall 2012 RTW : Givenchy

Fall 2012 RTW : Givenchy

Givenchy this season is quite dark. The make up is so severe, I had to look away! But this collection has blazers and jackets in great cuts retaining peplums and a sharp look. I liked the red and black lace and silk attires. They had a clash of tough and soft in it. The quilted black leather pants with that soft and flowy kimono blouse reflected that exact sentiment; as did the satin dresses with the thick belt. But the last few pieces of the collection is what I thought was the best work.…Read more
Fall 2012 RTW : Balmain

Fall 2012 RTW : Balmain

Rousteing has made Balmain luxe again.  Such beautiful and exquiste handwork and embroidery. Some of the pieces were very editorial but on the whole this collection was great and a definite improvement over Fall 2011. I loved the second look. With all the detailing, the roses gave it such a nice touch. The collection feels very architectural. The boxy and strong shoulder look of Balmin is recycled but is still present. The velvet pants mixed with the heavy work looked very rich. I like some of the quilted jackets as well. Fall 2012…Read more
Fall 2012 RTW : Blumarine

Fall 2012 RTW : Blumarine

Blumarine made me so happy! I loved this collection so much! It had so many different styles and yet you could picture them being part of the same era or sect. A very futuristic style. The coats were Mongolian lamb and I love the bright neon colours paired with white. Next came a series of comfy looking activewear again continuing the metallic silver-gold trend. I love the holographic taupe coat, its so unique. Yet it looks clean cut and very flattering. The blue holographic pieces looked so Nicki Minaj... I don't know where…Read more
Fall 2012 RTW : Louis Vuitton

Fall 2012 RTW : Louis Vuitton

Marc Jacobs added his vision of extraordinary details and huge hats to the Louis Vuitton collection as well. Some of the techniques used can only be marvelled at. I don't see many people wearing the entire look but many of them did have beautifully embroidered details like leather patchwork, prints etc. What drew me to this collection was the optical disc/kaleidoscope patterns on thick fabric. It wowed me. As I read one person say, many of the coats were very 'Downtown Abbey'-ish. I certainly felt that way with the opening piece. But as…Read more
Fall 2012 RTW : Marc by Marc Jacobs

Fall 2012 RTW : Marc by Marc Jacobs

Such a contrast from the Marc Jacobs show. But one thing seemed in line; rich fabrics and metallics. I absolutely loved all the blue metallic pieces. It reminds me of Essie's Aruba Blue, slightly more purple though. The opening dress had a noise pattern in bold contrast colours, gave the collection a edgy vibe from the beginning. Perhaps this collection will fare better than the heavily critiqued Marc Jacobs collection. Personally, I think the latter was more interesting to look at. But one thing is common, the mix of textures and patterns. Plaid…Read more
Fall 2012 RTW : Marc Jacobs

Fall 2012 RTW : Marc Jacobs

Some shows  are meant as a exhibition of techniques, bringing abstract ideas to life. This was one of them. But in a time when even the big fashion houses need to rethink their business models, does such 'wasteful' and 'hideous' (as dubbed by many viewers) extravagance justify itself? Or is there no limit to artistic scope? Its always a dilemma for me. But now to review the actual show. I have a strong dislike for unflattering silhouettes. But the details in these pieces was hard to ignore and very eye catching. I really…Read more
Fall 2012 RTW : Elie Saab

Fall 2012 RTW : Elie Saab

Season after season, Elie Saab' s collection look the same from afar. But the beauty lies in details. The wearable formal pieces came as a nice surprise. The oversize coats and blouses weren't a part of the collection but instead they were beautifully cut skirts and trenches that enhance or give the illusion of curves. As seen in the first picture, the black on the sides gives a slimming effect and reflects a very modern view. There was a lot of variety, with prints as well, my favourite being the taupe and black…Read more
