I was in the market for a cream highlighter a while back. I own the Mac paint pot in Rubenesque and colour wise I thought it would be such a good highlighter. When I came across Improper Copper at the Mac store, I tried it on, it looked so beautiful. The coppery gold highlight is something I don’t own, mine are more silver. This was promptly purchased then!
Mac’s Cream Color Base are multipurpose products. They are sheer and buildable and can be used all over the face and along with other makeup products. They do mention that it should not be used on the eyes. I did apply it to my lids and found it to be a bit too sheer. I generally just use this for highlighting.
Across the cheeks, nose, above the lip, it works really well. The colour is a peachy copper colour with very fine gold shimmer which is similar though not exactly like Rubenesque. The gold shimmer is a lot more pronounced if you look very closely. From far away it isn’t so noticeable and the whole deal looks seamless. I think the colour is pretty spot on for Indian skintones as it gives that lovely gold sheen, seriously, just try the colour in the store.
The consistency is so soft but not too creamy like a liquid highlighter; it’s similar to cream blushes. It’s very easy to blend and build up. You might find it very sheer at first but you can easily apply more and get it to your liking. Being creamy, it feels perfect for me in winter with dry skin. Even in humid weather it gives a nice sheen and doesn’t look oily or greasy but people with oily skin might not like this as much as powder highlighters.
This doesn’t highlight any problem areas for me, it doesn’t emphasis any dryness or pores, it looks really smooth like second skin.
I didn’t find this very long lasting to be honest. It lasts well for about 6 hours and does fade a bit. I’m sure there are others that are better in this department. I generally only tend to wear highlighters if I’m going out or if it’s an occasion anyway so I really don’t require it to last 9 to 6 for me. Overall, the colour is too pretty to pass up.
You get 3.2g of product for around Rs. 1500. I packaging is like the blushes but it is much smaller in size (blushes contain 6g). I don’t think I’d ever need to repurchase this, it has tons of product but if you’re looking for a warm gold toned highlighter, this one is pretty good!
