My Skincare Routine | PM

Welcome to part two of my skincare routine, all about night time! Introduction about my skin type and morning skincare routine are all in this post. My pre-blogging self would be scoffing at this routine. From foam cleanser + Nivea + Vaseline, this is what it’s come to!

The first part of my night time routine is basically cleansing and toning. I very much prefer using cleansing oils and balms/milk/cream variants. Another addition that I previously did not use is an exfoliating toner. It’s really helped with keeping the PH of my skin more acidic. I think that’s really helped my skin overall, keeping it more healthy looking and relatively more dry patch and blemish free.

  • Makeup Remover : Bioderma Sensibio H20 Solution Micellaire : Review : To start off, I take off the bulk of my makeup with Bioderma. On days where I’m not wearing too much makeup I just skip this and use the cleansing oil instead. I really love the water consistency and that it doesn’t leave a sticky/oily film behind. Doesn’t hurt the eyes at all and takes everything off. It works better when you just leave it on for a while and then start swiping it away, giving it some time to melt off the makeup.
  • Cleansing Oil : Shiseido Aqualabel Deep Clear Oil Cleansing : This is really cheap drugstore cleansing oil I bought when I was in Tokyo. It works so well though! Consistency wise it’s more like Bioderma than an oil, definitely lighter than Shu Uemura. It smells like dried roses and takes off my the makeup really well. I generally massage this just as a oil all over my face for a few minutes before I add in water. It’s gentle in the eye area but vision can get cloudy for a while if you’re not careful.
  • Cleanser : Ren Hydra-Calm Cleansing Milk : A newer part of my routine is double cleansing. While the previous two might be used for makeup removal, this Ren cleanser is to get rid off that last speck of makeup and everything else. It’s more of a cream texture which turns more milky when water is added. It doesn’t leave a film as such but my face doesn’t feel dried out after I use this. Also, if I’m applying any masks, I generally do that now before the toner. More about that in the next post though!

  • Exfoliating Toner : Biologique Recherche Lotion P50V : Review : As I mentioned before, I’m new to an exfoliating toner. I’ve used chemical exfoliants in general (mainly lactic acid) but not on an everyday basis. I was doing a lot of research on which one I should use and Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 came up many times. I’m using P50V which is a milder version for more sensitive skintypes right now. I thought it would be best to start with this and work my way up. I only use this at night right now but I might start using it in the mornings later as well. These are supposed to sting really badly but on me it doesn’t. The first few times I used it, it stung in certain areas more than it does now. It’s different everytime I use it. It’s not like my entire face is burning but I guess depending on my skin situation, it affects different areas in various degrees or sometimes not at all. It contains a PHA (Gluconodeltalactone), AHA (lactic acid), Niacinamide (Vitamin B3 for brightening), BHA (salicylic acid) and few other milder AHA’s like Malic Acid and Phytic Acid. Fair warning, it smells terrible, like old cheese. It doesn’t linger for long so I’m kinda used to it now. It’s probably the most expensive product in my routine so I am looking for alternatives. I’m definitely going to try a few different products before I settle on a winner. Also, I apply this by patting it with a cotton pad, not a swiping action. I’ll be doing a detailed post on this soon.
  • Hydrating Toner : Origins Make A Difference Plus + Treatment Lotion : Once I apply the toner above, I just let it sink in and do it’s work for 2-3 minutes. Then I go in with my Origins hydrating toner which feels really refreshing and just calms my skin down.

Eye Cream : Clinique All About Eyes Rich : Review : I wasn’t using an eye cream before June last year. A visit to Tiananmen Square in the summer dehydrated my under eye area horribly and this was quick purchase. Thankfully, it repaired my skin really quickly and I’ve been using it ever since. I guess it does the job, my eye area has never felt dry. Again, I’m new to eye creams so I’ll be trying a few different ones until I settle but this one works well for me. You also need a really tiny amount. I just graze my ring finger very lightly in the tub and that’s enough for my eye area. It takes a while to sink in but in the morning there’s really no dryness to be found.

Serum/Facial Oil : Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate : Review : I’ve loved loved loved this oil for so long! I repurchased it last year and it still works really well for me. It’s a saviour in winters! The oil isn’t thick at all and while it looks a bit shiny when you apply it, it sinks in after a couple of minutes and the skin looks really hydrated and plump. So I use this in different ways. In summers when dry skin isn’t too much of a problem, I just use one or two drops in areas that really need it, wait for a while and then use a moisturizer over it. In winters it’s 3-4 drops which covers every inch of my face and neck. Doesn’t look great but in the morning it sure does!

Moisturizer : Origins Make A Difference Plus+ Rejuvenating Moisturizer : Since I use a facial oil every night, I don’t really need a thick ‘night time’ moisturizer. On most days I don’t even need this because I only use the facial oil but on some days (when I’m feeling lazy), I just apply this and it keeps my skin hydrated. I don’t get that glowy, plumped look I do with the facial oil but it’s  good enough.

Lip Balm : Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm : Review : Finally, a thick layer of this keeps my lips soft and moisturized. I have chronic dryness so I can’t really do without it. Love the texture and the semi matte finish. It feels a bit heavy with a thicker layer but I don’t really mind it at night.

And that’s all folks! I know I haven’t reviewed a lot of these products so I will get on it soon. Next post will be covering masks and acne repair stuff!

Is your routine as crazy as mine? Also let me know your picks for exfoliating toners and eye creams. While the current products work for me, I’m still going to try out new ones in the future.

I did a whole series on exfoliating toners on the blog last year, but in short: If you want something for mornings, try the Clarins one. It is very gentle and doesn’t give you redness, but does the job very well.

My routine is as crazy as yours, and I am constantly adding new stuff. Let´s face it: I have a skincare addiction…

Haha! I’ll look up that post, thanks! ^_^

Another one you should probably put on the list is Sunday Riley Good Genes. It is a serum containing Lactic Acid, which is less irritating and more moisturizing than other acids. But is is pricey.

i have the exact same routine but with different products (except bioderma and reve de miel because they’re both the best in their category). i really want to try p50 but unfortunately they don’t sell it online and i doubt there are any australian stockists but it’s meant to be incredible! chemical exfoliants completely transformed my skin when i started using them and i’ve never looked back.

Oh I’d love to read a review of the Biologique Recherche toner! I don’t tone much at all, and my skin generally speaking doesn’t handle AHA too well (except for my T-zone. I think the skin is just thicker there), but still I am curious! As for eye cream recs, I really love the Pai one and the Caudalie Polyphenol C15 one! Both are reasonably-priced (in this part of the world at least) but perform great :)

    • Xuvious

The one for sensitive skin, P50V might be worth a try. I think you can try it beforehand if there’s a spa that uses BR in your city. :)
I’m going for the Pai eye cream next! :)

  • Kiss & Make-up

The Nuxe Reve De Miel is in pretty much every beauty blogger’s routine, hee hee :-) And I can see why. It is just suuuuuch a treat for the lips!

    • Xuvious

True! I think I’m done talking about it for rest of the year now. :)

  • fiona furtado

Bioderma is a staple in my skincare routine. That lip balm has to come home.

    • Xuvious

I was so happy they made it available on Nykaa, can’t live without it!

  • Lorraine Haigney

I’m a little bit more pared down, but I used to have a stash like this. I suppose I’d think about expanding if my budget stretched – I’d love to try that Alpha H Liquid Gold.

I think eventually that’s where I want to be, just the products that really work. For now there are certain areas where I’m experimenting, so it’ll be this crazy for a while. :p

  • Corinne C

I really need to get toning into my routine! For some reason I just can’t seem to make it a regular thing!

I know, especially when you’re tired. Sometimes I just want to cleanse + moisturize and be done!

  • Clever Girl Reviews

I really want to get my hands on p50!

    • Xuvious

I think there are a few spa websites that do ship in US/Europe. :)

  • Wild Hearts + Green Tea

Very interesting to learn of your skincare routine, you use some great products! I, too, use the All About Eyes eye cream and Origins Make a Difference moisturizer. That hydrating toner sounds amazing and like something I’d love, and I’ve wanted to try the Midnight Recovery Oil – do you use it in the daytime or only at night? :)

    • Xuvious

I use the oil only at night. In the mornings I just don’t have the patience to wait for it to sink in. :)
Glad I’m not the only one that likes the moisturizer! ^_^

  • Agata

My evening skincare routine is more extensive than my morning one but you still use more products than me. I don’t use an eye cream either…Maybe I should change that!

For exfoliating toners I am using Pixi Glow Tonic and I love it, not sure if it’s available in your part of the world though.

    • Xuvious

Ohh I’ve heard a lot of great things about the Glow Tonic. Supposedly, it is a dupe for P50!
Not easily available here though, will have to hunt for it.

  • Krithi Marla

    again lovely set of products
even i love love Kiehls MRC and currently Im not using …Im waiting to repurcahse again :)

    • Xuvious

Thanks Krithi! I’m going to try a different facial oil after this though. I’ve been using it for so long, I want something different now. :p

  • Aarti

Ive been trying for the longest time to get my hands on the P50 toner
and have tried in vain to write to them directly and to various spas in
the US if they can ship internationally. It has all been a dead end :(
Did you pick this up on one of your trips abroad or were you able to find some website that ships to India. Please Please share!

    • Xuvious

Hey Aarti! You can get it in India! :)
I emailed BR directly and they gave me the email id of the distributer.
      JCKRC Spa Destination Pvt. Ltd.

They own the Caressaa Day Spa in Juhu. If you’re in Mumbai you can go there directly, they’ll do a trial and all.

I basically emailed jckrc, had a skin consultation over the phone. I had to wire the money but the product was with me within a week. :)

      • Aarti

super sweet of you to respond so promptly and share the details. appreciate it!
and i’ve been reading your blog silently for ages…love all the beauty and non-beauty stuff! cheers :)

Thanks Aarti! That’s so sweet! :)
