Tom Ford Lip Color Matte in Plum Lush

Hey everyone! It’s been a while! Hope you’re all having a great weekend! I have a lot of catching up to do, I’ll probably be glued to my laptop all weekend.

Few lipsticks bring out such excitement in me! Plum Lush caught my eye ever since I first spotted it on Temptalia. Initially I scoffed at a lipstick costing $50. Funny how that changes. Every review of the Matte formula made the decision easier though. It was just a matter of when I’d get it. I put it off for a long time mainly because $50 creates a mental barrier which is difficult to break. Oh well, now that it’s all done, I’m so pleased with my purchase!

Tom Ford Lip Color Matte in Plum Lush is one of my favourite kind of colours, bright berry pinks! Think Revlon’s iconic Cherries in the Snow but lighter and of course, matte. The cool tone makes your teeth appear more white, it’s a colour that isn’t obnoxiously bright and is appropriate for any occasion.

It’s very pigmented so you generally just need to swipe once and it feels very creamy. It doesn’t emphasize any lines or settle into them as the hours go by. Despite the ‘matte’ label, this isn’t to be mistaken for a dry powdery transfer proof matte. It’s more of a velvet matte finish which has the tiniest bit of sheen but very comfortable to wear. Speaking of comfort, I won’t say these are hydrating but they aren’t drying either which is good enough for me when it comes to mattes!

I love how this wears. Typically it will last a good 6-7 hours but if you’re eating, this won’t completely come off or leave a ring around the lips. It fades evenly and settles to a stain which I quite like. I’ve also worn this over a lip liner, blotting it twice and it’s worn well through meals, heat and long hours.

The packaging is so gorgeous! It’s weighty, the gold lines look very modern and while there’s no magnetic twisting of the cap, there’s that satisfying click to keep you entertained. I baby this lipstick a lot though. I haven’t thrown away the cover, I’ve actually been using the back of the lipstick to avoid the TF from getting smudged completely. This madness has to stop!

The price of course is problematic at $50 for 3g, but the colour and formula combination make it so worth it for me. I’ve worn this for a lot of special events and it just makes it more memorable for me. Also, I hear the Lips & Boys collection is making a comeback if you want to get these at $32! It’s not available in India but I have listed a couple of retailers below.

In my opinion, the formula isn’t so revolutionary now that you need to get this. L’oreal Moist Matte Lipsticks or even Chanel Rouge Allure perform really well and there are increasingly more options and alternatives available. For me it really was about the experience of using a great lipstick, the colour, the packaging and the formula. A mix of it all that makes it worth it to me.

Oh this is really lovely on you! It is brighter on then what it looked like on your lips, sigh, your right about the price thought.

    • Xuvious

Thanks Chelsea! It is slightly darker in person or indoors, photos in ring/studio light definitely make it appear lighter.

wow such a nice shade know :)
and i can relate to 5/5 rating ,even i agree TF lipstics are best lipsticks :)

I just want more now, have to exert some self control!

I own Cherries in the Snow, so I guess I will pass on another color from that family, I don’t tend to wear them that often. 50 $ really is a lot, but when I think about how long my lipsticks usually last it is well worth the investment.

My thought process went from ‘this is similar to Cherries…’, quickly moved on to ‘but the finish is different’. I was sold. :p

Different finish, different shape, different formula.. We need them all, I understand.

  • Clever Girl Reviews

I have Cherries in the Glow and it’s very similar but I hear it’s an exact dupe for TF Cherry Lush!

    • Xuvious

Yep, I think Cherry Lush is more red but I agree they are both very creamy.

Love this shade, it really is stunning and it suits you so well. I’ve also been lusting after one of these lipsticks for quite some time now but haven’t been able to get past the price just yet. It really is a luxurious treat though isn’t it x

When these came out I was sure I wouldn’t buy them, look where I am now! But I agree, this would be great as a present or for a #treatyoself moment.

  • Sunny @Mostly Sunny

Oh you got Plum Lush!!!! I am so happy for you! I love this shade SO much! I actually think it’s one of the best matte lipsticks I’ve tried, because it outlasts pretty much everything else.

    • Xuvious

Your review definitely helped me make up my mind about trying the Matte versions, I’m glad I did. It’s one of the best I’ve tried as well. I do feel like the Burberry Lip Velvets are very similar but the colour range is more earthy.

Haha, I still have that price tag barrier in my head at the moment but it’s slowly being worn down because they just such gorgeous lipsticks and everyone raves about them! I’ll need to pick out my perfect red shade first though.

    • Xuvious

Aahh, so Ruby Rush from the matte range would be perfect!
      It’ll happen one day! 😉

  • Divya

Oh this looks AMAZING on you! I have a very very similar color and to think of it even finish wise! YSL Rouge Pur Couture #4 Rouge Vermilion is that! :-)

    • Xuvious

Thanks Divya! I do have Rouge Vermilion, I love the colour! It’s bit more red I think and it has a bit of dustiness to it that makes it really wearable. I agree, the finish is very matte velvet like. :)

  • Agata

This is totally my kind of shade! It looks gorgeous on you!

    • Xuvious

      It is! Thanks Agata! :)
