I’m back from Jaipur! JLF was really good this time, discovered so many new authors like Philip Hensher, Jim Crace, Jonathan Franzen etc. Also loved the sessions with Gloria Steinem and Amartya Sen.
But anyway, I was so pumped about next month because of fashion week that it sort of slipped my mind that the Spring Couture shows take place right now! This actually happens every year, but I just caught it in time this year!
The inspiration for this collection was the iconic Grace Kelly in that classic hood giving an overall innocence. Donatella’s couture collection drew from that and ventured out into a distinct Versace mode. There was structure and showing off the body in the right places. The colours are rich and the detailing is intricate but immense. I love the gowns in particular and the first few dresses with the graphic design element to it.
For those anticipating it, the show was a treat! It was a mix of new prints in old silhouettes or the other way round. It kept surprising and shocking you, which captures the spirit well. If the colours weren’t loud, the volume was. There’s a lot of show here if you look at the details. The draping is exquisite, but with my (limited) tastes, I liked the floral and printed skirts.
It was no Galliano but still very Dior. Raf Simmons’ vision played out well in this collection. Cutwork and flow were very much in sync in this collection. You really need to watch the video at the source. The colours really evoke a beautiful spring palette. But I actually like the darker pieces in this collection, the gown with multi colour stones or the dark blue dress are stunning.
